Amoebic liver abscess

It causes due to infection with the protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica. this parasite found in the stool of carrier in the cystic and trophozoite form. it is transmitted by faecal- oral route. The liver is the commonest extraintestinal site of infection. Liver abscesses can be solitary or multiple. 80% of abscess develop in right lobe of liver and can present several years after intestinal infection. It is characterized by malaise pyrexia, weight loss, mild right hypochondrial pain, diarrhoea.
