Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is an extremely common form of arteriosclerosis in which deposits of yellowish plaque containing the cholestrol,high density lipoproteins, irregularly distributed lipid material and lipophages deposited in the intima and inner media of large and medium sized artries; particularly in the carotid artery.such deposite provoke fibrosis and calcification.Such deposits can be spotted by arteriography and ultrasound. these deposites block, or eventually entirely, shut off blood flow. Thus atherosclerosis greatly raises the risk of angina, stroke, or heart attack.Factors which aggravate the condition are high blood pressure, smoking, toxic substances in the envoinment and other agents. primary means of prevention from atherosclerosis are low fat diets, regular vigorous excercise, control of high blood pressure and diabeties, and avoidance of tobacco.
