Cilastatin (Na)
Overview
Cilastatin (Na) is an aihibitor of enzyme dehydropeptidase I, found in the brush border of the renal tubules. Cilastatin (Na) is administered concomitantly with the antibiotic Imipenem to prevent its renal metabolism to microbiologically inactive and potentially nephrotoxic products. Cilastatin has no bacterial activity itself, and does not affect the antibacterial activity of imipenem.
