Overview

Chlorpromazine (HCl) is the hydrochloride salt of chlorpromazine which is a phenothiazine derivative. It is used as an antiemetic, antipsychotic and tranquilizer. Chlorpromazine (HCl) is administered by rectal suppositories.

Interference in Pathology

  • Urinary Ferric Chloride test for phenylketonuria may be falsely positive.
  • Altered urinary excretion of vanillylmandelic acid, 17-ketosteroids and 17-OH corticosteroids.
  • Immunological Tests for Pregnancy may be falsely positive.
